You will notice that a decision was made to deviate away from our original plan at the Bantam level. We wanted to explain why this
decision was made.
Our original plan was to offer one “tournament team” at both the 2002 and 2003 age levels, and then a Bantam 1 and Bantam 2 team that would
be a mixture of both birth years based on the skill of the children. We opted to go with two birth year teams at both the 2002 and 2003 levels. We reached this decision after careful consideration by our Bantam Coaches and more specifically Hockey Director DJ LaVarre after watching both the evaluations and the Checking Clinic. We feel that this spring season will allow our 2003 players a better opportunity to acclimate to check hockey and provide more specific training that can be tailored to each age group. As a club we have been well served by letting “our hockey people make hockey decisions” and if DJ feels there is even a small incremental opportunity to improve player safety or enhance the experience, then we need to listen to him.
Also of note is that the 2002 and 2003 White team will both be coached by Randy Schlessinger. Randy was originally slated to coach the Bantam 1 and 2 teams, and as we had planned both these teams will both do skills and share a “rollover” practice together. In short, the same kids will be on the ice as previously planned.
As we speak Tom is working on the exact game scheduling and tournament opportunities for both these teams and we will have that exact plan and schedule completed by Thursday. Please feel free to contact either Craig or DJ with any questions or concerns.
